On the November 2017 ballot, voters were asked if they approve of a 100% property tax elimination rather than the 50% that a local school board “can” currently enact. The overwhelming response was ‘yes’ (54% to 46%).
So now, PA Senator Scavello states that he will introduce legislation that makes that change. (Pocono Record article here…)
The bill has not yet been introduced and therefore not yet available for close review. However, the Senator has issued a number of statements about what will be in it.
Once introduced, we’ll see exactly how it compares to SB 76.
For now, our School Property Tax Elimination Committee wants our membership and the public to know that based on what we have seen so far, we will continue to lobby for SB 76, as it is the preferred solution.
